HOW TO INSTALL SWINGARM EXTENSIONS
1. To start: Loosen the rear axle nut before lifting the bike.
2. Remove the four 4 mm Allen bolts and the lower belly wing.
3. Put the bike on a rear stand or lift the bike with a small floor jack
under the shock pivot.
4. Locate the master link on your chain and use your grinder to grind off the top of the two rivets on the master link. (The master link may be a blue link on new chains. On replacement chains, any link will work.) Pry off the outside plate of the link and the chain will come apart. Connect the new chain to the end of your old chain and pull the new chain through the front sprocket cover to make it easier to get the new chain in place properly. After you perform these steps, you can dispose of the old chain.
5. Remove the rear wheel, factory brake bar and caliper.
6. Install the swingarm extensions. Remove the silver bracket on the left inside of the swingarm. Place the extensions into the swingarm one side at a time (sanding may be required due to tight clearances). The next step is installing the extension mounting plate using a 7/32 Allen socket. Apply red Loctite to bolt threads and torque to 40 ft. lbs
7. Place the rear wheel and brake assembly into the swingarm and insert the rear axle to hold the wheel into place (be sure to grease axle with a quality axle grease). Place the rear wheel where you want it and snug the axle nut so the wheel is locked into place. Be sure to leave at least 3/4" to 1" behind the axle adjuster block to allow for chain stretch and adjustment.
8. Temporarily attach the new chain to the upper portion of the old chain (you may use the new master link to do this). Pull the lower portion of the old chain to feed the new chain around the front sprocket. Cut the new chain to the correct length. Install the new master link.
There are three types of links out there. All Things Chrome offers a new EK Screw-type link that makes a EK chain install easy. With this type of link, all you have to do is slide the link into both ends of the new chain, place the O-rings and side plate onto the link and use your wrench to tighten the side plate down into place. If your chain has a clip link, you have to slide it into place, add O-rings, side plate and install the clip making sure the open end is facing the right direction. If you have a chain with a rivet link, you will need a chain tool to press the side plate on and flare the heads on each rivet.
9. Now it is time to adjust your chain and tighten the axle nut. Make sure the rear wheel is straight by checking the adjustment on each side by the marks on the adjuster blocks and extensions. Now tighten the axle nut and replace cotter pin.
10. (NO PHOTO) Next install the brake bar. (Do not tighten down the nuts all the way these are locking nuts and you must have a little bit of play in your brake bar. If you do not your caliper will be put in a bind and your brake pads will wear to one side.)
11. Now it is time to adjust your chain and tighten the axle nut. Make sure the rear wheel is straight by checking the adjustment on each side by the marks on the adjuster blocks and extensions. Now tighten the axle nut and replace cotter pin.
